What is Average handling time?
Average handling time, or AHT, is the average length of a call from start to finish, including any work done during it. It is usually measured in minutes and used to plan staffing and cost. Shorter is not always better, because rushing a call can lower resolution.
Why Average handling time matters for Telugu calling
AHT drives cost. On EnableCalls you pay for connected time, so a call that runs long costs more, and a call that wanders costs more still.
For a Telugu agent, AHT also reflects how well the conversation flows. Repeated misunderstandings and re-asked questions add seconds that callers notice.
How to measure or improve it
Add the duration of all connected calls of a type and divide by the number of calls.
- Measure by call type, not overall.
- Look at the longest calls to find loops and repeated questions.
- Balance against resolution: a shorter call that fails is not better.
Pay for connected call time only.
EnableCalls runs on a prepaid credit wallet. One credit is one rupee, credits are used only while a call is connected and answered, and unanswered, busy or failed attempts cost nothing. Rates are set per account, so we do not print a fixed figure here.
Questions people ask.
01Should I aim to reduce it?
Only where the extra time is waste. Do not cut time that helps the caller.
02Does it include waiting time?
Definitions vary. Decide whether you count time before the agent speaks.
03How does it relate to cost?
On connected-time billing, cost scales with call duration.
